Southern Florida is a study in contrasts. Here are native farmers and ranchers who speak
with a southern accent, but also international jet-setters who live here only
part of the year. Much of the area is old; a lot of it is new. You'll find
developed beaches and lonely stretches of country road. And in some places, you
find all of these aspects in just one county!
Whether you come for the
wilderness of the Everglades, the fun-loving Keys, the beautiful southwestern
barrier islands or the hotspots of Miami, there's something for everyone to do
in southern Florida.
Hopefully, you can plan a trip to Everglades National
Park, Lake Okeechobee or Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, all of which are
important to the Everglades ecosystem and the health of Florida Bay. J.N.
"Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island is a
favorite with birdwatchers. And the beauty of the coral reef stretching along
the Keys draws divers and snorkelers from around the world.
