Q: Hi, I would like to know what kind of wildflowers are growing along the highways in Pasco County and north on I-75. There are 2 shades of pink and some white. The pink ones have white around the center of the flower. I would also like to know where to get seed for them. Thank you! -- Tina
A: Well, Tina, I would like to know, too! But because I don't have time to drive to Pasco County and look for myself, I turned to the Florida Department of Transportation because I know that, in many areas, the FDOT plants wildflowers along highways.
The FDOT referred to the Florida Wildflower Program. Have you seen the license plate that features a flower and supports growing wildflowers? The Florida Wildflower Foundation is the organization that helped make that happen, and you can find out how to get that plate at this site.
This site also has a lot of information about Florida's wildflowers, including tips, and offers membership in the Florida Wildflower Foundation. Maybe you will find your pink-and-white flowers here, or maybe someone in the foundation can tell you if the flowers were planted along I-75 on purpose.
Or maybe it's just a pretty weed.
