Q: I found your Web site very informative. My family (8 adults, 3 kids) is looking for a place around 2 to 3.5 hours from West Palm Beach that offers either one cabin or 2 that will sleep 7 of us. And a place for us to park my parents' 35-foot RV. We're looking to relax on a lake or somewhere that's cozy, nestled under some big oak trees, so we can roast marshmallows and relax all together. Any suggestions? Thank you once again. Sincerely -- Lori Roddey
A: Thanks for your kind words about the EcoFlorida Web site, Lori. Aiming to please!
Hmm, let's see. Cozy and relaxing sounds great. Less than an hour away at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, you'd be right at home. While it's actually the Loxahatchee River, not a lake, that the park has, the cabins aren't far from the dock. The cabins are nearly brand new and covered with tree canopy.
You might be able to drive to Sarasota within your time limit, and there you have Myakka River State Park, one of my favorite state parks. This park has a lake and lots of big trees.
The Kissimmee/Orlando KOA, which has fishing ponds, rents cabins. (Also check with other KOAs because several have cabins for rent.)
Please note that most places separate the cabin area from the RV area, so you're not likely to be able to share a spot with your parents -- they'll just be nearby.
