Q: Hi! I am from Quebec, Canada, and I'm traveling in Florida for 3 months. I'm looking for free campsites or real cheap ones (less than $5 a night) that are not located in a national forest. Thanks for your help!
A: Bien sur. Florida has several state parks in which there are primitive campsites, and they cost $3 per night.
You said you didn't want to camp in a national forest, but there are Florida state forests with primitive campsites that cost typically $4 per night.
For free campsites, try those in lands managed by Florida's 5 water management districts. Please see the EcoFlorida page on Florida ecotourism locations for links to these water management districts so you can find out more about the campgrounds in these lands.
Last but not least, check out our Florida camping primer for tips on camping in our great state.
