Q: Could you please provide me a list of the campgrounds that have cabin, cottage or trailer rental units? Thanks -- Charlie Mitchell
A: Hey, Charlie, that's a great idea to have such a list. It would take me hours to compile such a list, though, so I'll have to include your idea for my "wish list" the next time we revamp the EcoFlorida Web site.
So while I can't give you an exhaustive list, what I can do for you right now is point you to a few places I know of where you can find this information.
First, try Florida state parks with cabins. Be aware that some of these cabins are primitive.
You can reserve cabins in Ocala National Forest through Recreation Resource
Management.
Also try KOA Florida locations. Most KOA campgrounds have cabins you can rent.
Look into privately run properties, like Oak Haven River Retreat in Tampa, Steinhatchee Landing in Steinhatchee, Oak Harbor RV Park in Haines City, Old Saltworks
Cabins in Port St. Joe, Everglades Cozy Cabins in Everglades City, a cabin on the Suwannee River and Silver Harbor Lodge (863-699-0035) in Lake Placid.
You can also search for campgrounds that offer cabins with this Florida Campgrounds database, if you know which city you'd like to visit.
Previous Q&As have covered cabins, so don't forget to check them out, too. You can search for the word "cabin" in the search field on the EcoFlorida home page. You can also order a back copy of the EcoFlorida premiere issue, which included a feature on places to stay in a cabin. That feature covered most cabins in the state, but not trailer rental units, which you're also interested in, however.
One last thought: The book Florida Camping by Marilyn Moore details campgrounds across the state, and it mentions which have rental trailers and cabins, too.
Best of luck to you.
